THE PERSON OF GOD

INTRODUCTION: The study of God is always ambiguous. The only true knowledge  about God is gained from the Bible. John 1:18; 1 John 1:12; Exo. 33 :20; 23; John 14:7-11; 17:3

1.     God’s Personality

Personality is characterized by possessing knowledge, feeling, and power. An idol is devoid of personality for it either know, feel nor responds.

Our God is an individual that is living, and has definite characteristics.

God is person, not an influence or unseen power or force such as electricity. Jer. 10:10; 1 Thess. 1:9; Acts 14:15; 11 Chron. 16:9; Psa. 94:11

2.     God’s Nature

God is a spirit. A spirit is a ghost – it has neither flesh, bone nor blood. Luk. 24:39; John 4:24; 1 Tim. 1: 17; 6:16;

3.     God’s Unity

The Lord our God is one God in contrast to the plurality of pagan gods. Deut.6:4; Isa. 44:6; 46:21

4.     God’s Natural attributes

An attribute is a quality, property or unique characteristic of something

Ø He is eternal – He has no beginning nor ending. Psa. 90:2; 1 Tim. 1:17; psa. 102:24;27; Isa. 57:15; Gen. 1:1

Ø He is unchangeable Sam. 15:29; mal. 3:6; James 1:17

Ø He possesses all power (Omnipotent) Gen. 1:1; 3; Job 42:2; Psa 33:9

Ø He is present everywhere at one and the same time (Omnipresent) 1 Kings 8:27; Psa. 139:7-9; Jer. 23:23; Eph. 1:23

Ø He has all knowledge (Omniscient) 1 Chron. 28:9; 2 Chron. 16:9; Psa. 94:11; Dan. 2:20; Job 42:2; Isa. 40:28

5.     God’s moral  attributes

Ø God is holy -  Exo. 15:11; 1 Sam. 2:2; Isa. 6:3; 1 Peter 1:16

Ø God is righteous – Psa. 116:5; Ezra 9:15; Psa. 145:17; Jer. 12:1

Ø  God is merciful -  Psa. 103: 8; Deut. 4:31; Psa. 86:15; Rom. 9:18

Ø God is love – 1 John 4:8-16; John 3:16; 1 John 3:16; John 16:27

Ø God is faithful – 1 Cor. 1:9; 2 Tim. 2:13; Deut. 7:9; 32:4

Ø God is glorious – Exo. 15:11; Psa. 145:5

Ø God is gracious – Exo. 34:6; Psa. 116:5

Ø God is longsuffering – Num. 14:18; Mic. 7:18;

Ø God is Jealous – Joshua 24:19; Nahum 1:2

Ø God is compassionate – 1 Kings 8:23

Ø God is great – 2 Chron. 2:5; Psa. 86:10

Ø God is unsearchable -  Job 11:7; Psa. 145:3

Ø God is invisible – Job 23:8-9;; 1Ttim 1:17

Ø God is good – Psa. 25:8; 119:68

Ø God is upright – Psa. 25:8; 92:15

Ø God is immutable – Psa. 102:26-27; James 1:17

Ø God is light – Isa. 60:19; 1 John 1:5

Ø God is true – Jer. 10:10

Ø God is perfect – Matt. 5:48

Ø God is incorruptible – Rom. 1:23

Ø God is immortal 1 Tim. 1:17; 6:16

Ø God is a consuming fire – Heb. 12:29

Ø None is like God – Exo. 9:14; Deut. 33:226

Love Him. Worship Him. Serve Him. Obey Him. Fear Him.
