GOD’S WORD ON BUILDING UP OTHERS
WHY IS IT NECESSARY FOR US TO BUILD EACH OTHER UP IN CHRIST?
Zechariah 7:9 . . . This is what the Lord Almighty says:
Judge fairly and honestly, and show mercy and kindness to one another.
1 Peter 3:8 . . . Finally, all of you should be of one mind,
full of sympathy toward each other, loving one another with tender hearts and
humble minds.
1 Corinthians 8:1 . . . Now let’s talk about food that has
been sacrificed to idols. You think that everyone should agree with your perfect
knowledge. While knowledge may make us feel important, it is love that really
builds up the church.
Ephesians 4:2 . . . Be humble and gentle. Be patient with
each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.
The loving manner in which we treat one another lays the
foundation for building one another up.
Romans 15:2 . . . We should please others. If we do what
helps them, we will build them up in the Lord.
1 Corinthians 10:23-24 . . . You say, “I am allowed to do
anything”-but not everything is helpful. You say, “I am allowed to do
anything”-but not everything is beneficial. Don’t think only of your own good.
Think of other Christians and what is best for them.
Considering one another’s welfare helps us to build each other up in Christ.
Ephesians 4:32 . . . Instead, be kind to each other,
tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven
you.
Colossians 3:13 . . . You must make allowance for each
other’s faults and forgive the person who offends you. Remember, the Lord
forgave you, so you must forgive others.
Being forgiving with each other helps us to build each other up.
Hebrews 12:14 . . . Try to live in peace with everyone, and
seek to live a clean and holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the
Lord.
Romans 12:18 . . . Do your part to live in peace with
everyone, as much as possible.
Romans 14:19 . . . Let us aim for harmony in the church and
try to build each other up.
A PEACEFUL ATMOSPHERE FOSTERS OUR BUILDING ONE ANOTHER UP.
HOW DO WE BUILD EACH OTHER UP?

to outbursts of love and good deeds.
Encouragement is generous, spontaneous love in action. It
helps to build others up.
1 Thessalonians 5:14 . . . Brothers and sisters, we urge you
to warn those who are lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of
those who are weak. Be patient with everyone.
Meeting each other’s needs is loving service in action. It helps to build others up.
2 Corinthians 13:11 . . . Dear friends, I close my letter
with these last words: Rejoice. Change your ways. Encourage each other. Live in
harmony and peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you.
1 Thessalonians 5:11 . . . Encourage each other and build
each other up, just as you are already doing.
Ephesians 4:29 . . . Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let
everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an
encouragement to those who hear them.
Living with others in harmony and peace is loving service in action. It helps to build others up.
1 Samuel 23:16 . . . Jonathan went to find David and
encouraged him to stay strong in his faith in God.
Acts 11:23 . . . When he arrived and saw this proof of God’s
favor, he was filled with joy, and he encouraged the believers to stay true to
the Lord.
ENCOURAGING ANOTHER’S RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD IS LOVING SERVICE IN ACTION. IT HELPS TO BUILD OTHERS UP.
Colossians 3:16 . . . Let the words of Christ, in all their
richness, live in your hearts and make you wise. Use his words to teach and
counsel each other. Sing Psalm and hymns and spiritual songs to God with
thankful hearts.
Titus 1:9 . . . He must have a strong and steadfast belief
in the trustworthy message he was taught; then he will be able to encourage
others with right teaching and show those who oppose it where they are wrong.
We can build one another up by sharing God’s Word of instruction and by worshiping God together.
2 Chronicles 30:22 . . . Hezekiah encouraged the Levites for
the skill they displayed as they served the Lord. So for seven days the
celebration continued. Peace offerings were sacrificed, and the people
confessed their sins to the Lord, the God of their ancestors.

and take delight in honoring each other.
Romans 13:7 . . . Give to everyone what you owe them: Pay
your taxes and import duties, and give respect and honor to all to whom it is
due.

them. My look of approval was precious to them.

heart; good news makes for good health.
We can build one another up with a joyful countenance.
WHAT ARE THE RESULTS OF BUILDING EACH OTHER UP?
Ephesians 4:12-16 . . . Their responsibility is to equip
God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ, until
we come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be
mature and full grown in the Lord, measuring up to the full stature of Christ.
Then we will no longer be like children, forever changing our minds about what
we believe because someone has told us something different or because someone
has cleverly lied to us and made the lie sound like the truth. Instead, we will
hold to the truth in love, becoming more and more in every way like Christ, who
is the head of his body, the church. Under his direction, the whole body is
fitted together perfectly.
As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.
1 Corinthians 14:26 . . . Well, my brothers and sisters,
let’s summarize what I am saying. When you meet, one will sing, another will
teach, another will tell some special revelation God has given, one will speak
in an unknown language, while another will interpret what is said. But
everything that is done must be useful to all and build them up in the Lord.
Christlikeness is a result of building one another up. The community of believers benefits as it becomes corporately stronger.
1 Corinthians 14:24 . . . If all of you are prophesying, and
unbelievers or people who don’t understand these things come into your meeting,
they will be convicted of sin, and they will be condemned by what you say.
Unbelievers won to Christ is a result of building one another up. New believers added to the church builds the church up.
PROMISE FROM GOD:
2 Corinthians 13:11 . . . Dear friends, I close my letter
with these last words: Rejoice. Change your ways. Encourage each other.
