JESUS CHRIST’S PRAYERS IN GREAT CRISIS

JESUS CHRIST’S PRAYERS IN GREAT CRISIS

INTRODUCTION

The live-wire of Jesus Christ while he was here on earth was prayer! Prayer!! Prayer!!!
From time to time, the Bible records “He went into a solitary place”. Jesus Christ did not play with prayer at all. Though he was 100% God when he was here and 100% man at the same time, yet he deemed it fit to pray.
The popular chant says “Prayer is the key, prayer is the key, prayer is the master-key. Jesus started with prayer and ended with prayer, prayer is the master-key.”.
Sure! Jesus Christ did not play with prayer. He knows what prayer is and what it can do. As 100% man, he was limited to some certain things here on earth then. He knew that the only remedy to fill up the gap is to connect to the Father (God almighty; Jehovah, the Creator of the universe; He wo has the final say). Though Jesus Christ, then was the only visible God; the express image of God Almighty yet he saw it fit to prayer.
When he was made flesh as John 1:14 says, he became 100% human, with every limitation of man. He was subject to sickness and death as Isaiah 53 says. So, He discovered that he could not make it without a serious prayer life.

JESUS CHRIST’S PRAYERS IN GREAT CRISIS

At His Baptism (Matt 3:13-17; Mark 1:9-11; John 1:29-34):
When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. 22 And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, "You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased." (Luke 3:21-22 NKJV).

Immediately After the Baptism (Matt 4:1-11; Mark 1:12,13):

Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 being tempted for forty days by the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry. (Luke 4:1-2 NKJV)

Before Calling His Disciples (Matt 10:1-4; Mark 3:13-19):

Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. 13 And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself; and from them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles: 14 Simon, whom He also named Peter, and Andrew his brother; James and John; Philip and Bartholomew; 15 Matthew and Thomas; James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called the Zealot; 16 Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot who also became a traitor. (Luke 6:12-16 NKJV)

When the Crowd Would have crowned Him King (Matt 14:22-33; Mark 6:45-52):

Therefore when Jesus perceived that they were about to come and take Him by force to make Him king, He departed again to the mountain by Himself alone. (John 6:15 NKJV)

At the Transfiguration:

“For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. (Luke 9:24 NKJV)
His Farewell Prayer (John 17 NKJV)

Jesus Prays for Himself (vv. 1-5):

1 Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: "Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, 2 as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. 4 I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. 5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.

6 Jesus Prays for His Disciples (vv. 6-19):

"I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. 7 Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You. 8 For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me. 9 "I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours. 10 And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them. 11 Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are. 12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. 13 But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. 18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.

20 Jesus Prays for All Believers (vv.20-26):

"I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: 23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.
24 "Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. 25 O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me. 26 And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them."

Before the Agony of the Cross:

“He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, "O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will” (Matt 26:39 NKJV).

On the Cross:

“Then Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do." And they divided His garments and cast lots. (Luke 23:34 NKJV)
